Perea

The resort town of Peraia (Perea), which is one of the eastern suburbs of the city of Thessaloniki, has developed in recent years reaching a significant increase in its population, which today is more than 18,000 people.  

History  
During the Ottoman rule, the village of Peraia belonged to one of the Turkish beys. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe, 204 families had settled in this place: 132 came from the west of Asia Minor, and 72 came from Eastern Thrace, which in total amounted to 740 persons.  

Today, the settlement of Levadiki, which existed from 1923, has also entered the municipality of Peraia. It is located between Peraia and the international airport “Macedonia”.  

Beaches and promenade  
Today, the resort has a well-organized sandy beach with a length of about two kilometers, being not only an ideal place for daily trips of Thessaloniki residents, but also a place of attraction for many foreign tourists. In addition to sun loungers and umbrellas, all along the coast are opened numerous beach bars working from early morning until late at night. It makes the embankment a particularly appealing place for the entertainment of all kinds of holidaymakers.  

Peraia beaches were awarded a Blue Flag mark. The most lively and crowded beaches are Feros and Kohili, which have rescue services on them.  

In addition to that, the seafront of Peraia is famous for a large number of excellent fish taverns where you can enjoy the most delicious fresh fish. The taverns are located extremely close to the water edge and open some great panoramic views of the city of Thessaloniki, which is located a little further along the coastline of the Gulf of Thermal.

Infrastructure  
The resort has developed a tourist infrastructure: along the coastal line you can see a variety of hotels and apartments of all categories. They offer affordable prices and a warm atmosphere to meet the needs and demands of numerous visitors. Apart from that, the seaside has a number of luxury villas, both within and outside of the boundaries of the town.  

Peraia can be reached by car or by bus. In summer, it can be reached on small passenger boats, which sail away from the marina of Thessaloniki.   View More »
